My name is Sumner Nelson, and I'm currently studying International Studies at Indiana University Bloomington. I'm originally from Mason, Ohio and graduated from William Mason High School in 2021.In my time at IU thus far, I have become increasingly involved by building community within the Dungeons and Dragons at IU club, as I have been on the leadership council since December 2023. Recently we had a near-record turn out for our Miniature Painting Night, where 37 club members attended for two hours to paint, eat, and socialize. In my classes, I have been able to fine tune my research, professional and creative writing, policy analysis, and historical comparison skills. In a class I’m taking now, INTL-I 423 Politics of Post-Imperialism, we have a heavily discussion based lesson plan with over a hundred pages of reading each week, which helps me critically question the points of the authors we read, as well as clearly communicate my own points of view during class.I feel like the most important thing to me after graduation is feeling fulfilled in life, and my career, while being a big part of that, is still just a part of it. I really want to do something morally fulfilling and “worth it” to myself, as well as something that intrigues me intellectually.Thank you for your time reading.
