Director of the UF Department of Anesthesiology. Work in partnership with Dr. Timothy Morey as chair to provide the resources necessary to support the department’s academic, clinical, and research missions. Reorganized the administrative infrastructure of the department to align mission support and established a new culture focused on teamwork, accountability, communication, innovation and change, and integrity. Continue to expand the department’s perioperative analytics capabilities to turn clinical data into actionable information that informs leadership decisions.

Established and implemented administrative, financial, facilities, and information technology operations. Served as the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer, aligned overall financial objectives with the needs of the college through effective operations, financial reporting, financial analysis and decision support, budget management, administrative management, and business plan development. Integrated the finances and operations of the existing Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences into the college. Provided analytical and planning expertise in support of business development activities and guide strategic and operational decision-making. Directed the Human Resources, Information Technology, Finance and Accounting, Facilities and Campus Operations, and Administration and Business Operations divisions. Served on the college’s senior leadership team and administer a $60 million annual operating budget. Reported to the vice president for medical affairs and founding dean of the College of Medicine.

Served as the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer. Directed the daily operational and financial activities through integration of complex funding sources and management of financial resources that support the education, research, and clinical service missions among seventeen divisions. Effectively managed relationships among institutional partners while advocating for mission-based initiatives, meeting service expectations, and measuring performance outcomes. Actively participated in School of Medicine initiatives designed to transform the clinical enterprise and bolster discretionary resources. Reported to the Chairman of Medicine.

Provided consulting and project support to the revenue cycle director of the physician practice plan at West Virginia University College of Medicine.

Directed the activities of the centralized business office for the physician practice plan composed of more than 400 providers who generate more than $150 million in cash collections at Fletcher Allen Healthcare . As a senior member of the practice plan executive committee, worked closely with the Group Practice Council and its committee structure to integrate business office activities and improve operational efficiency. Directed revenue cycle activities from charge capture to claim payment and ensure appropriate use of coding and billing policies. Deployed analytical reports to provide actionable information for process improvement. Developed and maintained effective working relationships with federal intermediaries and contracted third party payers. Reported to the Medical Group Vice President.

Directed the managed care contracting and financial analysis activities on behalf of the faculty practice plan. Evaluated and made recommendations on contract proposals and renewals. Monitored the contract performance of more than 40 contracts comprising more than $62 million in net revenues. Managed relationships among all stakeholders including department chairs, executive committees, physicians, third party payers, revenue cycle management teams, and the Division of Managed Care for the Shands Healthcare Network. Directed the activities of financial analysts and managed the reimbursement and charge schedules in the IDX Pricing Module. Integrated operations experience to positively effect revenue cycle performance and influenced change among management teams to improve operations. Directed the revenue cycle operations for the Departments of Anesthesiology, Neurosurgery, Otolaryngology, and Surgery, comprising $84 million in gross charges and directly accountable for $32 million in cash collections. Effectively utilized detailed knowledge of IDX System, ambulatory care operations, ICD-9 and CPT coding conventions, and CMS compliance. Applied knowledge of billing and accounts receivable processes, clinical operations, third party payer requirements, and managed care contracts. Reported to Director of Billing and Accounts Receivable.

Directed all aspects of operational and financial activities of eight physician clinics (psychiatry, neurosurgical specialties, general surgery, plastic surgery, anesthesiology pre-op, pain management, and surgical subspecialties) with 54,100 annual visits, 31.5 employees, and a $2.3 million expense budget. Applied background in business office operations and patient encounter cycle combined with a working knowledge of IDX Systems. Reported to Director of Operations.

Led the training initiative for the installation of the IDX Scheduling application for 21 physician clinics, both primary care and specialty clinics. Reported to Director of Operations.

Supervised financial representatives located in off campus clinics, a total of 10 clinics and 23 staff. Reported to Director of Billing and Accounts Receivable.
