Ict & Maths TeacherLondon Borough Of Haringey Jan 2010 - Aug 2016Haringey Adult Learning Service (Hals), London, United KingdomThis was a challenging role, I taught 19+ learners from a diverse background. I delivered 12-16 weeks accredited or RARPA functional maths courses funded mainly by SFA (Skills Funding Agency). This required me to embed employability skills, computer skills, literacy and other soft skills in the curriculum. Our achievement target was 90% and attendance target was 87%. Achieving retention and achievement targets was a challenge - I tried to meet those by making courses interesting and relevant to my learners. I designed my schemes of work and taught functional mathematics L1/L2 and GCSE maths and ICT courses at HALS. I regularly used Learnertrack, email, VLE and my own website to support learners and incorporate Information and learning technology and other soft skills in lessons for learners’ personal development. Apart from teaching I carried out internal verification, peer observation and took part in resource planning and course planning. This is a local government service where as a professional, I carried out prevent and safeguarding duties and implemented equality and diversity at all time. -
LibrarianLondon Borough Of Haringey May 1994 - Nov 2015Central Library, Wood Green, London N22This secure local authority job gave me an opportunity to develop myself personally by working in a learning environment. When I started this job, computer and online resources were not readily available - and I used to find a great satisfaction helping people doing their research and information search in the library. I worked in different libraries and took on different responsibilities such as staff management, bibliographic work, library enquiry and research duties as necessary for the service. I also worked on projects to promote learning and social inclusion. I taught IT courses to library users and became interested in teaching. I enjoyed organising community events, running ICT courses, managing stock, and successfully managing a reading group. The people aspect of the job made it satisfying. I met people from all walks of life in Haringey, liaise with community organisations, delivered events according to the needs of service users. this involved a good amount of team work.
