I am a designer, educator, STEAM activist, social entrepreneur, futurist, and the co-founder & CEO of Open Design Afrika. I am a dot connector, systems thinker, and doer. During the 90s, a businessman told me that design has no societal value, especially not in a developing country like South Africa. A pivotal moment that shaped my purpose and professional journey. I always view the world through a design lens. It’s an interwoven interconnected incredible ecosystem that totally depends on healthy symbiotic relations and diversity to thrive.I am passionate about exploring & experimenting with new and diverse ideas that are purpose-driven, place-based, scalable, regenerative, and sustainable - that can add significance and meaning at the very core. As an educator, I believe it is crucial to understand what are appropriate future skills and how to develop social and human capital that’s future-fit. Education has the power to transform society into a global community of future-makers. Developing future-making life skills in ALL children is the very first building block of this crucial design brief. For generations, we engineered a destructive and unjust world. As an optimist, I believe our intelligent species is equally capable of designing the exact opposite. Our public platform, Open Design Afrika addresses these crucial agendas. Mindfully crafted experiences democratize knowledge-sharing and collaboration between people from all walks of life. We challenge current mindsets and behavior and aspire to inspire new solutions that create conditions conducive to life that can impact 10 000 generations and more. Every child and citizen should have the right to develop Collaborative Creative Intelligence. This SuperPower will enable everyone to contribute to the making of a future world we can all feel proud to live, work and play in. Today we have the most crucial design brief to execute in the history of mankind. To design a thriving future for people and the planet. The future of our species, and the planet depends on it. No matter your age, occupation, culture, or religious beliefs, as a collective we are ALL responsible for designing the state of this world. We need future skills that enable us to think systemically and act as a global community to ignite change on a momentous scale. I believe by achieving this will globally manifest our African Humanist Philosophy and ethos of UBUNTU (the power of US): “I am because you are” and “I participate therefore I am”! If this design brief interests you, reach out, and let’s shape this future together.
