About Sunil Kumar Karn, Dr.Eng.

I am a civil and environmental engineer with 33 years of experience. I have earned B.E. (Civil) from Inst. of Engg., Tribhuvan University, Nepal, in 1991; M.E. (Envi. Engg.) from Asian Inst. of Technology, Thailand, in 1998; Ph.D in environmental engineering from Nagaoka University of Technology (NUT), Niigata, Japan, in 2002; and Post-doctoral from United Nations University (UNU), Tokyo, Japan, in 2003. I have worked for 11 years in Govt of Nepal from 1991 to 2002. I have done academic research and teaching at NUT & UNU, Japan. I have carried out research studies/projects in the countries of India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Thailand, Philippines and Niger (Africa) covering the areas of water supply and sanitation, water pollution control in urban rivers and developing low cost technologies for municipal sewage treatment in developing countries.As Consulting Engineer, my specialty falls in Construction Supervision and Project Management, Contract management, Detailed Design, Feasibility Studies and Master Planning of Water Supply and Sewerage Facilities. In this regard, I have worked in East Timor, Bangladesh, India, Jordan, Azerbaijan, Ukraine and Japan and short studies/inspections in Australia, China and United Kingdom. I take up positions such as Team Leader/Project Manager, Construction Supervisor, Specification Specialist, Contract Specialist, Hydraulic Design Engineer, NRW & Leak Detection Expert and Process expert for Water Supply Projects. I have been assuming Team Leader/Project Manager Position for last 16 years (since 2008) in row namely in JICA funded Kerala Water Supply Project, JICA funded Delhi WS Improvement Project and JICA funded Ganga Action Plan-II (IDP component) in India and ADB funded Khulna Water Supply Project (Phase-II), in Bangladesh. On administration and management side, I have been serving as the Resident Representative to India (i.e. Country Head) of Tokyo Engineering Consultants Co., Ltd. since 2008. Hence, I am fully aware of all the works related to Project administration, Accounting, Taxation, Company affairs and Legal matters besides Business Development, Human Resources Management, Training, Project Proposal (technical and financial) preparation etc.
