Sunita is a gender expert and a strategist working on systems change with over 24 years of experience. She has spearheaded national and global partnerships to design and deliver world class programs and campaigns by aligning partners' vision, feminist leadership, creative ideas and strategies for impact-oriented work to end violence against women and girls and promote active citizenship. Sunita co created the design, development and implementation of at scale gender programs in Breakthrough on critical issues of systems change, adolescent empowerment with special focus on building the agency and resilience of girls; prevent gender-based discrimination to address early marriage, domestic violence, sexual harassment and gender biased sex selection. She was instrumental in conceptualising and designing “Taaron Ki Toli” a gender equity program which has empowered over 850,000 adolescents in India since 2013. The program is currently being scaled up by Breakthrough with the Punjab State Education Board and Odisha School Education Programme Authority as part of its- ‘Gender Transformative Education System Program’ and is expected to reach over 4 million adolescents by 2028.She has played a pivotal role in co creating the 360-degree campaign ‘Bell Bajao’ and a sustained on the ground program in multiple states on addressing domestic violence. The program created ripple effects and was adapted as ‘Ring the Bell’ a UN Secretary General Campaign across the world. It was also adapted by organisations in Bangladesh; Nepal, Afghanistan and China after close capacity building and mentoring. She is an experienced instructional designer and facilitator and have conducted over 1000 capacity building programs with various stakeholders on diverse social issues. Empanelled as a technical expert for Gender and Rights in Lal Bahadur Shastri National Administrative Academy where she has led regular workshops for senior civil servants on gender, domestic violence and sexual harassment.Sunita is also the President on the board of Pravah, a youth development organisation and an alumni of the International Visitor Leadership Program run by the US state department.
