Based on my experience in the Sydney Metro Northwest Project, I developed a System Integration Suite with different tools to develop a System Breakdown Structure, identify and monitor development of Interface Control Document and achievement of key functions for the project. Trackers to monitoring HV and traction supplies energization and commissioning of various systems. The System Integration Suite is being used in a number of JH Rail projects in Queensland and Victoria.In Melbourne Tunnel Project, testing activities by infrastructure contractor CYP are recorded in Asset Hive. To achieve the critical milestone to start dynamic testing of trains in the new tunnel section, specific set of Post Installation Check Out (PICO), Functional Test Report (FTR) and Test Lot (TL) are required to be completed. Although the Asset Hive contain filter functions for manager to select the item of interest, it was difficult to know where and what systems were outstanding. I therefore develop high level trackers, based on the status in the Asset Hive, a holistic view of all required tests, as well as those outstanding tests, shown by locations and by systems, for T&C managers to direct the required resources to complete the tests and achieved the milestone on the target date. Apart from showing the number of outstanding tests, a Query function is added to list the details of those outstanding tests, charts and tables to show the completion trends over the last 3 days or last 3 weeks. Question was raised very often - Who is the System Integrator?I conducted two presentations on 'How to Monitor Integration of Multiple Systems' to the Conference On Railway Engineering (CORE) in Sydney and in Perth this year. I received lots of feedback on the usefulness of the System Integration Function Tools, which was developed by MTR in HK, and tailored for use in the Sydney Metro Northwest Project. Railway projects in Melbourne have also shown interest in using similar tool to manage system integration as well. Show less
