Select Accomplishments•Algebra 1 Curriculum (23-24): Completely revamped the curriculum to provide students with more opportunities for discovery, for increased dialogue and to take ownership of their learning. •Student Mentor: Started as a program to work with a small group of students to help with their transition to high school but didn’t end with freshman year. Over the past few years many students still frequently attend study hall for academic support, course guidance, and job/college advice.•Math Recitation: Lobbied and helped to create math recitations to provide another mode of support for students. Between the recitations, workshops and Everyday Algebra, students have shown tremendous improvement in both failure rates, understanding of content and ability to manage college prep courses at higher levels.•Virtual Instruction: Shared vision with administration to modify initial plan. Developed EdPuzzles to help ensure understanding of video instruction. Incorporated Big Ideas, Delta math, and Forms to assess learning. Worked to create numerous tactics to get struggling/absent students to catch up and complete virtual instruction assignments.•Teacher of the Year (2017-2018): Recognized for dedication and leadership role in multiple initiatives geared towards closing the achievement gap and helping students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds find their voice.•Community Tutoring: Helped to create and secure $10K initial funding to launch the Program to assist underserved population in completing homework after school due to work, family obligations, or sports. •Everyday Algebra: Placed 50% of students into higher math levels within three years of creating curriculum for and implementing Everyday Algebra, a program to support students with major math skill gaps in developing algebraic understanding.
