I have served in higher education for 35 years. After completing my Ph.D. in Biology from Georgetown University, I was a post-doc at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas doing basic science research. I then received my full-time teaching position at Lone-Star Montgomery in 1995 where I taught biology, biotechnology, microbiology, and molecular biology. I had the opportunity to grow as a department chair, director, dean over sciences, health & wellness all at Lone-Star Montgomery. I then took on a district wide role as Associate Vice Chancellor of Workforce Development at Lone-Star before taking my first presidency at Grossmont College (San Diego, CA) in 2007. I joined MiraCosta College in Oceanside, CA as Superintendent/President in 2015 and have led workforce efforts for the state of TX, CA and the San Diego/Imperial County regions. I serve on several national boards such as AACC, CCSSE, Board of Science Education (National Academies) and also regional boards such as the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation. I am a champion for the community college mission and our amazing students.
