Software Tools Developer
Senior Research Assistant
Stay-At-Home Mom
While taking care of my child as a homemaker, I completed coding projects and attended various online coding courses in order to keep up/enhance my skills. I learned more Python libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, Pandas). I deployed a technical blog with Jekyll and GitHub Pages to showcase some Python projects. I managed the blog and utilized version control for a little over a year. In 2020, I completed a Front End Developer Nanodegree at Udacity, in order to gain a full round understanding of apps. Afterwords, I worked on projects using JavaScript, CSS, and HTML (including some Node.JS and webpack) until 2021 when I began a coding traineeship with ITCareerSwitch. In 2022, I learned React while making an app. I've recently worked on two client-server web apps.
Phd Student
During my PhD, I used Python for quantitative data analysis, spatial interpolation, and 3-D modelling. I automated cleaning and extraction of structured data from raw instrument measurements. I automated regeneration of plots from data files. I generated basin-wide sequential isopach, paleotopographic, and facies maps. I implemented descriptive geometric statistics of both field data and stochastic simulations data (e.g., skewness, confidence intervals, and etc.). I developed an algorithm to stochastically generate models of the subsurface 3D geometries of rock bodies that could match 2D observations. As a PhD student, my research was part of a joint endeavor to help mitigate climate change. This project involved combining expertise from Imperial College, Qatar Petroleum, Shell, and Qatar Science and Technology Park, as part of a $70 million project to support the deployment of carbon capture and storage operations in Qatar. My role in this project was to provide a quantitative small-scale study of heterogeneity in rocks in mines within the UK, which serve as analogues to a regional top seal in the Middle East. My research was one part of the assessment of whether the target regional seal (caprock) would prevent the CO2 from leaking out.
Hardware Specialist
I upgraded and expanded an innovative supercomputer for an instrument, the Diviner Lunar Radiometer, aboard NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter spacecraft. For example, I built file servers to expand the data storage capacity to 1.6 petabytes. This helped solve the problem of an increasing influx of data from the instrument aboard the spacecraft.
Masters Student
I developed a novel analytical technique for U, Th, Pb, and Ti isotopes in zircon in conjunction with studying metallic elements and REE in igneous rocks. The new technique involved combining empirical temperature and age dating analyses for the mineral zircon using secondary ion mass spectrometry. I subsequently undertook model calculations and established data integration and reduction protocols. I used this new technique coupled with depth profiling on micron-scale epitaxial overgrowths of >4.0 Ga zircons. I identified a signature of impact-related heating and discovered the first terrestrial evidence for the hypothesized Late Heavy Bombardment.
Teaching Associate
As part of a team of TA's, I helped make the laboratory curriculum. I instructed undergraduate laboratory courses, including: Earthquakes, Introduction to Oceanography, and Introduction to Earth and Space Sciences.
Research Associate
I managed and operated the scanning electron microscope laboratory. I taught an annual scanning electron microscope short course for visiting scholars. I also regulated containment, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials for the lab. I showed students and postdocs how to use laboratory equipment. I ordered supplies and developed the user schedule for the scanning electron microscope. I also analyzed lunar zircons using the scanning electron microscope.
