I had a neglected and unpursued talent for art. I was drawn into construction trades by having a father with a masonry contracting business.. I did break out of construction and pursued starting a kayak specialty business which was never really profitable and after 18 years resulted in Chapter 7. Then I owned a house in Duluth on Park Point about 12 years. During most of those years I rented part of my house and started pursuing my long held dream of living on a sailboat.. Six winters of volunteering to crew on others sailboat’s and buying my own in 2019 .. long story but I sold SV Offlander after just over 2.5 years 🤔😬 Since a similar time I’ve been helping (as best I can) an impoverished, indigenous, single mom with 2 boys I’d met in late 2018 while looking at a sailboat in Rio Dulce, Guatemala. I wish I’d bought that one as I’d likely still have it rather than the one I bought in the Sea of Cortez, Mexico. Sold my Duluth house in July 2022 and have been in the process of immigrating to Central America. I had a simple house built on Lago Izabal in an indigenous village with no road access for the benefit of my ‘family’. Having no family of my own in the U.S. when I’m visiting my family I stay in this house.. But it’s too hot most of the year so I’m seeking a property in the higher elevation (3,000 to 5,000 feet seems good) I’m looking in both Guatemala either the central highlands or up in volcano areas out from Antigua. But I’m also looking in the higher elevations of Costa Rica.. 🤷🤞🏼🥹 It’s a quandary What I think about in my later years: Advocating for a future in which humanity finally realizes what is valuable.

I Used To Own A Kayak Focused Retail StoreSuperior Coastal Sports May 1992 - Jan 2010Grand Marais, MinnesotaStarted a kayak focused retail shop up in Grand Marais, Minnesota offering guided tours and lessons. Formerly referred to as Cascade Kayaks. Rode the peak of late 90's. Changed the business name to become diversified and stay open year around. Also had to rebuild after a divorce only to have things slow quite a bit in about 2002 and with added debt load I finally gave it up when someone approached me to buy my building... which I sold in January 2010.

Masonry And Carpentry ... Etc.Amren Construction, Axel Ohman Masonry, Self Employment Jun 1972 - Dec 1995Minnetonka, Minnesota Then Lutsen/Grand Marais Area Of MinnesotaBegan working for father's masonry business summers while still in highschool.. working as laborer initially... eventually becoming a block layer and cement finisher. Worked 3 years for Axel Ohman Masonry when my father retired. Moved to Lutsen/Grand Marais area in 1980 and worked self employed in construction... masonry and carpentry. Started a retail kayak shop in 1992 and other than working on my business premises and home (which was quite ongoing and extensive) I got out of construction. Now I rent out the main level of my house and spend winters crewing in other people's boats seeking an extra hand.
