I was first elected to the Alameda County Board of Supervisors in November of 1996, and am currently serving my fifth, four-year term on the Board. I represent the people residing within the cities of: Livermore, Dublin a large portion of Fremont, and unincorporated areas of Eastern Alameda County. I have experience with regional transportation and infrastructure policy within the Bay Area. I am a founding member of the Inter-Regional Partnership (IRP), comprised of 15 elected officials representing counties and cities from two regions; and a member and former chair of the Altamont Rail Express Joint Powers Authority (ACE). I am a member and former chair of the Alameda County Transportation Authority (ACTA) and the Alameda County Transportation Improvement Authority (ACTIA), which was formed to oversee projects funded through Measure B dollars. I serve on numerous regional transportation boards including: Vice Chair of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), which is responsible for allocating state and federal funds to regional transportation projects, Chair of the Alameda County Congestion Management Authority (CMA), and a member of the Livermore-Amador Valley Transit Authority (LAVTA). I am a member and former chair of the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD), and the Board of Supervisors' Transportation & Planning Committee. In addition to my leadership in the transportation arena, I place strong priorities in the field of public safety. Appointed by then-Governor Pete Wilson, I formerly served on the California State Seismic Safety Commission. I hold a seat on the Board of Directors for the Alameda County Collaborating Agencies Responding to Disasters (CARD). I formerly chaired the Alameda County Board of Supervisors Public Protection Committee and have been very active on paramedic and trauma issues.
