I joined Eli Van Allen's research lab at Dana Farber in November 2023 to learn about the impact of somatic chromosomal aberrations and genomic structural variants on cancer progression, as well as to study the computational methods used to infer and analyze these events from large patient cohorts.This summer, I plan to expand the scope of my work by applying structural variant callers to ICGC and PCAWG prostate cancer datasets, characterizing the landscape of these variants across prostate tumor subtypes, and exploring the impact of structural variants on 3D nuclear organization.

I recently joined the Oxford Biosecurity group as a remote student researcher to learn about mathematical models of antimicrobial resistance and current methods to survey the prevalence of antimicrobial use and resistance emergence globally. We conducted a literature review of existing pathogen-agnostic mathematical models and gathered datasets from different disease control centers globally.

Postbaccalaureate researcher under Dr. S. Cenk Sahinalp at the Cancer Data Science Laboratory (CDSL) at NCI.Our lab studies intra-tumor heterogeneity, one of the most challenging problems in developing effective cancer drugs. A single tumor in a single patient may have many genetically unique cell types, each of which must be identified and targeted by its own drug in order to permanently kill the cancer. We use graph-based and phylogenetic methods to model this heterogeneity as an evolutionary process and identify different tumor cell types from single-cell multi-omics sequencing data.Current projects:- Apply combinatorial optimization algorithms to find evolutionary pathways in Hairy Cell Leukemia (HCL) Whole-Exome Sequencing and scRNA-seq data from Dr. Robert Kreitman's lab- Apply phylogenetic inference algorithms (B-SCITE, CITUP) to multi-region Whole-exome sequencing on a recent breast cancer patient from Dr. Steven Rosenberg's lab- Apply phylogenetic inference algorithms (PhISCS, CITUP) to AML samples from Dr. Chris Hourigan's lab sequenced under multiple paradigms (DNA-seq, RNA-seq, single-cell, bulk)Previous projects:- Mentoring two high-school interns on an introductory genome mapping project

- Support challenging courses in Biological Sciences curriculum (03-220 Genetics, 03-151 Honors Modern Biology, 03-121 Modern Biology) as a group tutor- Lead 2-4 weekly study group sessions of 8-12 students to review course content- Meet weekly with course professors to review course content and develop lesson plans for students- Mentor upcoming EXCEL leaders by co-leading and reviewing review sessions with them

- Implemented and improved the performance of clustering algorithms on genomic data from breast cancer tumor cells in Dr. Russell Schwartz's lab- Presented results at CMU's Meeting of the Minds
