It was always a dream of my late mother who was a dressmaker and CMT in our local community that I follow in her footsteps, but after she was retrenched in 1984 I secretly scoffed at this idea. After her passing on my birthday hence the name Design26 that I discovered my true gift. With 14 years in corporate and having never worked in a clothing manufacturing industry before nor did I have a tertiary education in design, I reincarnated a dream and started Design26 (Pty). A socialenterprise manufacturing woman's ready-to-wear clothing, homeware, slogan printed baby vest and a range of breastfeeding wear. After dealing with girls in matric providing them with a custom made service of matricball dresses. Post results I discovered that most of them did not have the financial resources to further their studies, some of them could not find work because they did not have a skill and work experience and in the saddest case been effected by teenage pregnancies. I then started Design26 Foundation to give young women renewed hope, identity within the greater Cape Flats area. We're on a mission to revive the clothing manufacturing industry, create employment, restore dignity and eliminate poverty.
