I implemented a new monitoring stack; using Grafana, Prometheus, Loki and Tempo. With additional work to prove the concept for integrating Grafana Faro with the angular frontend application. Using Terraform I was able to create the core Grafana services, without dashboard provisioning. Additional to my role to integrate with Grafana I spent my time training Timothy Godleman on Grafana practices, Docker and standard practices for SRE monitoring, enabling Tim to implement a roadmap for the progression of the monitoring stack at RiskNarrative. Note; this positions short tenure, whilst very impactful, was a result of me returning to my previous role. Circumstances changed regarding why I had moved on, which then granted me the choice to stay with a new company or return to one I am more familiar and comfortable with.

Utilising systems such as; Grafana, Loki, zabbix and developing our own tools we identify key metrics within the Purple infrastructure. To increase reliability and performance proactively. Additional to improving reliability my role includes devops tasks using Puppet, Terraform and Docker. Provisioning the infrastructure for new services or optimising existing services, to save costs. The skills involved are broad; needing to understand common Linux principles, provisioning systems, database design, networking and work with many teams across the business. I work with many 3rd party apis to gather metrics and resolve issues within the platform; covering SOAP, REST, gRPC and GraphQL.

Wilbur is a Trovo bot, built to provide additional alerting and moderation needs for users. Wilbur is designed to be stable and easy to expand.Built using a range of technologies;- NodeJS- GoLang- PHP / Laravel- Loki / Grafana- Docker- Terraform- AnsibleThe platform puts into play a lot of technical abilities I previously had as well as new skills gained from Purple, to enable an; easy to deploy, monitor and maintain platform. It is designed around using nodeJS websocket nodes to communicate with trovo, which then dispatch to a central PubSub. This then is the core of the alerts, commands and other features around the platform.In addition we put in play multi-threaded golang processors to do some of the heavy lifting on frequent, high load, requests to the Trovo API to keep on top of users uptime and stats.

One of the core developers working on a range of sites. These sites vary from bespoke builds revolving the clients specific needs to more generic websites.Working with clients like Sony and Warner Brothers on websites for the Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stoneage, Tim McGraw and Mariah Carey. These websites are very frontend heavy, using a range of Javascript based techniques to achieve smooth and enjoyable user experiences. Working with DevOps to deploy sites capable of high traffic.The above are cool, but my favoured role is building the backend systems for campaign sites. Building websites (generally campaign sites) for the likes of Vodafone, MoreThan, Hertz and Continental.Integrating with a range of API's:- I've used the Google API for map querying, geolocation and helping users quickly fill in their user data. Their geolocation hooks into a rewards API to serve relevant local rewards to the customer.- Many of the longer running campaign sites I have been working on integrate with the Mastercard API to provide short lasting debit cards with a set amount on, to spend in any store or online. These have added a new layer of complexity; ensuring they are safe, secure, easy to use and fast- to allow users to quickly check their balance on the go.These websites interest me due to having to set out the database to be uniform and optimized. Building them using Laravel (Specifically Lumen).Visualizing the data and arranging it, storing it, creating the endpoints. That is always interesting to me.

An average week there would involve reviewing the current features we wish to implement as well as current issues we are aware of, then create a week of work that would contain the highest priority issues and features. An example of features which took most priority would be the plugin system which I implemented; which uses Lithium’s special composer like system “Libraries” to load and unload additional libraries into the system, depending on whether the merchant (Merchants are the admins of the eCommerce website) has enabled or disabled the plugin.We began to try and implement a more modern API into Shopblocks, built with Lumen / Laravel, which would follow a more efficient architecture for the company's future projects. This API was built with TDD in mind and new features and endpoints were heavily unit tested to ensure consistent responses.

I worked on fixing bugs; common tasks like correcting CSS issues or finding out why a price was showing up incorrectly. As well as created plugins for websites that needed additional features. One key example is Cakesmiths (cakesmiths.com) with their very specific delivery system in place they were only able to deliver on certain days between certain times, the plugin we used for their delivery system just didn't cut the features we needed and so myself and another developer modified the system to allow for their needs. I would also work on full website builds; a good example would be FW Homestores which was created with no base template or bootstrap.Throughout the time here I was learning about vital skills like using Ajax to create seamless form posts with their task system Taskd. Implementing new features into it like issue comments and an interface for customers to post an issue through.
