CurrentDr. Kumar has worked extensively in the areas of analytical chemistry and chemical toxicology, including wastewater, air and sediment quality monitoring, data validation, safety evaluation, and risk assessment. He has actively participated in numerous experimental and monitoring programs (e.g., determination of toxic metals, pesticides, PCBs, chloro-dioxins, and VOCs in air, water, soil/sediment, food, animal feed, and edible oils) and developed several analytical methodologies. He has performed validation and interpretation of chemical data for various projects including U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. During his tenure at the Industrial Toxicology Research Center (India), he had conducted safety evaluations of various chemical mixtures and pesticides in species of laboratory animals and developed acceptable daily intakes (ADIs)/reference dose (Rfd) for product registration. Additionally, he has conducted human health and ecological risk assessment, performed evaluation of treatment technologies and developed risk-based cleanup goals for various environmental media (soil, water, and air) contaminated with toxic chemicals.He has considerable experience with various EPA regulations such as the Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, Toxic Substances Control Act, Resources Conservation and Recovery Acts, and their successors - the Hazardous Solid Waste Amendments, and Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act. A person with his background can interact with various disciplines (e.g., environmental biology, environmental health sciences, environmental technology, solid waste and wastewater groups) to monitor hazardous pollutants, develop analytical methods, and interpret and validate chemical data.
