My PhD study focused on the characterization of Burkholderia sp. strain SJ98 genome by whole genome sequencing, assembly and annotation. I have identified some nitroaromatic compound degradation genes in the genome of strain SJ98 by bioinformatic analysis. I have also analyzed the genes involved in the chemotaxis activity of strain SJ98 towards the nitroraomatic compounds. Further I cloned, heterologously expressed (in E. coli) and characterized the p-nitrophenol degradation pathway genes from strain SJ98. Apart from my PhD work I have also discovered a novel bacterial genus viz., "Imtechella halotolerans K1" isolated form the estuarine water. This bacterial genera was named on the "Institute of Microbial Technology (IMTECH)". I have also sequenced, annotated some other bacterial genomes on Ion-Torrent personal genome machine (PGM) a facility available at IMTECH viz., Arthobacter sp. SJCon.
