Disease and Immunity - Study of host perception and signaling, programmed cell death response (HR) and resistance initiated by bacterial pathogens.Made leading and highly significant contributions that enabled engineering disease resistant host, demonstrated conserved disease mechanisms across different kingdoms. These contributions are considered pioneering and seminal by other leaders in the field. One of the publications: The Plant Cell. 1996 Jul;8(7):1095-1105 was featured in nearly all top journals in life sciences (including Science, Nature) as well as highlighted by editorial feature in that journal. One highly specific marker gene (biomarker) I characterized extensively is present in a large number of species and formed the basis for definition of a protein domain.2.
