I have 19 years of project / team leadership experience at AstraZeneca India in the discovery of New Chemical Entities for the treatment of malaria and tuberculosis, with 18 research publications in the international journals. AZD5847 from our team has completed Phase 2a trial for tuberculosis treatment and a candidate drug for malaria is undergoing pre-clinical safety studies. Since July 2014, I am involved in PK-PD/modeling & simulation analysis for human dose prediction in all the malaria drug discovery projects that are globally funded by the Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV). Experience at Astrazeneca:After finishing my postgraduate studies in fermentation technology in 1989, I joined Astra Research Center India as a Research Associate. Till 1995, I was mainly involved in optimizing batch/fed-batch fermentation technologies followed by purification/characterization of wild type and recombinant proteins expressed in E.coli, S.cerevisiae and P.pastoris on a laboratory scale. I aligned myself to the drug discovery field in malaria in 1996 and served as a project leader for the discovery programme till 2000. From 2000 to 2004, I led a discovery project for novel anti-tuberculosis drugs at Astrazeneca. From 2005 to 2008, I worked as a team leader in biochemistry to develop high throughput assays and characterize kinetics of novel enzyme inhibitors. From 2009 to 2011, I lead a team of PKPD scientists in DMPK. From 2012 to May 2014, I worked as a Senior Research Scientist in PKPD and modeling/simulation area and as a DMPK lead for drug discovery projects in Lead Optimisation and in clinical Phase1/2 trial.
