For the past 43 years I have been teaching people from all walks of life to use music as a way to improve, energize and vitalize their lives. My passion is the use of music as medicine and particularly the use of music for the patient in surgery. I have conducted medical research at the University of Louisville School of Medicine while working closely under the guidance of Joel Elkes, MD, and Leah Dickstein, MD. I worked as a clinician at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville providing individual, family, and group therapy. While at Baptist Healthcare I also did training on the use of music as medicine with preemies and newborns, chemical dependency patients, and patients diagnosed with Dementia and Alzheimer's.In 1990 I became a professional speaker on the Healing Power of Music in addition to teaching and performing classical concerts on piano. I have now presented keynotes and workshops around the world and have an award-winning site and 3 individual blogs. I've presented a webinar for all caregivers at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi as well as the University of Louisville, University Hospital Department of Anesthesia. I have presented Grand Rounds to Cleveland Clinic Florida as well as other hospitals around the world..My book, "Having Surgery? Using Music to Decrease Anxiety and Pain Perception," is available on Amazon at https://amzn.to/2V2kw6H.We sell preloaded headphones containing our copyrighted music, that I curated according to a proprietary system that engages “rhythmic entrainment,” in which the body responds to the rhythm of the music, creating relaxation. Our music is specifically curated to calm patient anxiety and decrease perception of pain. To get the headphones, visit www.SurgicalSerenitySolutions.com and click Patients or Medical Professionals. We also offer an app with playlists in five genres of music especially designed decrease anxiety in patients having surgery or other medical/dental procedures. To download the app in either Apple App Store or Google Play Store, simply click here. www.SurgicalSerenitySolutions.com/calm. In the Apple App Store you can search for "surgical music." Today I welcome all joint venture proposals and look forward to working with people from music and medical professions and disciplines.Specialties: Presenting medical and clinical CEU seminars, working with medical professionals on the use of music for patients before, during and after surgery. Ceo And Founder At Surgical Serenity SolutionsSurgical Serenity Solutions Jan 2005 - PresentLouisville, Kentucky, UsThe use of music during surgery and other medical procedures has been largely limited to the physicians. Now we know that the right kinds of music is equally important for the patient. Unfortunately, it's the opposite kind of music that the surgeon usually plays. Both patient and surgeon need their best music. Ample research exists documenting that the body responds to the slow, rhythmic pulse of music by synchronizing breathing and heartbeat to that tempo. This reduces the need for as much anesthesia, pain medication and anxiety medication and greatly improves patient satisfaction scores. A safer procedure results and patients gets back to their lives faster. Hospitals also are able to process more patients through the operating room and recovery room because patients have fewer side-effects as the result of less anesthesia and pain meds. -
