I work in the Intellectual Property practice area at NERA, with specific expertise in survey development and analyses related to trademarks, patents, and false advertising. This includes surveys to establish likelihood of confusion, secondary meaning, and dilution.

After successfully securing a highly competitive, multi-year NIH grant (K99/R00) in the summer of 2018, I began additional research on social networks and cardiovascular disease. As part of this role, I focused on conducting and designing surveys for a longitudinal panel study; leading teams in analysis and publication of actionable findings using causal inference approaches; tailoring communication of findings to audiences in local, national, and international settings

Assisted with the design and implementation of off-platform survey research across 12 international markets on user well-being as well as on-platform survey research on social comparison; merged survey data with behavioral metrics; delivered results and product implications/recommendations to product managers, engineers, data scientists, and public relations; experience working in R, Presto/SQL, Quip, and other internal software platforms

I conducted longitudinal and multi-level analyses of personal (ego-centric) networks and various health-related outcomes as part of the UC Berkeley Social Networks Study team. I also contributed to survey development and design as the panel study progressed. During this time, I wrote and submitted three NIH grant proposals for additional research activities, two of which were successfully funded, the third of which was ultimately supported by an NIH-sponsored internal mechanism at UC Berkeley. As a lead researcher, I have presented my work at several national and international research conferences. I am also first-author on several publications and contributed to various others within our research group. Last but not least, I mentored and continue to mentor several graduate and undergraduate students interested in network science.

Examining the feasibility, acceptability, and effectiveness of a playground intervention to decrease bullying behavior while increasing physical activity in elementary school children

Administered a community health survey to San Diego residents to find out about local health needs. The project is responsible for the San Diego area of the National HIV Behavioral Surveillance (NHBS). Nationally, NHBS is a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) program, funding equivalent surveys in the 21 cities with the highest rates of HIV.

The National Children’s Study (NCS) aimed to examine the effects of the environment, as broadly defined to include factors such as air, water, diet, sound, family dynamics, community and cultural influences, and genetics on the growth, development, and health of children across the United States, following them from before birth until age 21 years. The goal of the Study was to improve the health and well-being of children and contribute to understanding the role various factors have on health and disease.
