My work background is varied. I am currently a Business Analyst but have extensive experience in Instructional Design and Training. In my previous position, I was a Senior Instructional Designer/Senior Business Analyst, creating instructor-led training, web-based training and simulations. I have created various reference materials (job aids), maintained an Intranet web page, managed a Learning Management System (LMS), conducted User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and project managed many software releases. I have also created many iterations of testing scripts for new releases of software. Most of my experience lies in Instructional Design and the management (and maintenance) of various applications used by my former employer. I was working on my second B.S. in Information Technology, but put that degree on hold, while I pursued my Master's degree in Instructional Design for Online Learning. I have since graduated (with distinction) and am enjoying a much needed break from formally expanding my education. I still intend to resume work toward my IT degree, but must admit, it is nice having a little free time. There are many similarities between Business Analysis and Instructional Design, which may seem surprising, but they follow similar paths. In both positions, analysis, design, development and implementation occur. The biggest difference lies in the materials created. In Business Analysis, requirements are gathered and documented in BRDs (Business Requirement Documents). In Instructional Design, the requirements gathered form the basis for design related documents, such as storyboards. While the output is different, the process of finding and designing a solution aligns to both career paths.I have been blessed to work in both careers and expand my IT experience and knowledge.
