CurrentThe Climate Strategy & Skills team within SOLAS is responsible for the strategic direction of the Further Education & Training Sector with respect to National, EU and Global directives designed to meet Ireland’s Climate Action targets. Responsibilities include:- Leading and creating the 1st National FET Skills Strategy for the Green Transition in collaboration with FET stakeholders, industry and consultation partners - Collaborating with industry, government and FET partners to establish Ireland’s 1st National E-Mobility Skills Training Centre- Commissioning and managing research to identify skills/labour gaps within key government priority areas (i.e. housing, retrofitting etc.)- Working with various government depts (DFHERIS/DECC/DETE etc.) to identify agile skills responses across multiple areas- Supporting ETBs on the establishment of 6 National Centres of Excellence for Near Zero Energy Building (NZEB) training- Designing metrics to capture and quantify the climate-related provision across FET- Establishing and chairing various thematic oversight groups to ensure stakeholder representation and expert advice across multiple sectors- Collaborating with our internal communications team to develop national campaigns/events aimed at promoting green/sustainable careers within key government priority areas- Working with other state bodies (SEAI, HSA) to reform construction operations in line with green transition requirements- Collaborating with Higher Education/Tertiary sector on green skills, construction, and sustainable development educational pathways- Providing strategic leadership, vision, and direction in the management of the team, working effectively with peers, external colleagues, departments, and other relevant funded bodies- Ensuring compliance with public procurement policy, data protection laws and implementing the performance management system for all direct reports
Assistant Manager: Apprenticeship & Work-Based Learning Unit
The Apprenticeship & Work-based Learning Unit supports approx. 6000 employers and 18,000 learners across 28 institutions (as of April 2020). SOLAS is the statutory authority, funder and coordinating provider of 27 craft apprenticeship programmes delivered nationally.Responsibilities include:-Co-ordination of statutory instruments-Supporting, guiding and advising consortia/co-ordinating providers in the new apprenticeship development process-Approving the release of funding to new apprenticeship consortia-Ensuring legal compliance with all internal/external policies/procedures-Secretariat to Apprenticeship Council-Preparation of Government briefing notes/Parliamentary Questions/Oireachtas submissions-Liaising with industry/social partners/educational partners on delivery matters-Developing QQI compliant QA policies for programme development and delivery-Creating national policies to support employers/learners/institutions-Designing internal/external governance structures to support transparency and accountability-Leading on a change management strategy to reform programme/assessment development-Developing links with similar organisations to share learning towards common goals-Creating cross-functional teams to meet unit/organisational needs-Management of staff-Business planning/budgeting
