I help lead a child sponsorship program in Mexico that assists families with the burden of school expenses. More than 80% of children in this community drop out of school after the 4th grade because it is too expensive for the family. The children who drop out of school find work making $1 a day, or are left at home alone. We partner with Ministrios Transformacion churches in Baja Mexico and currently sponsor 366 students ranging in age from 3 to 23; preschool through college. Sponsorship costs $25 per month and sponsors are able to go down to Mexico on one of our trips to meet their sponsored student.

In addition to helping lead the child sponsorship program in Mexico, I now also help lead the Breakfast Program. It's estimated that 95% of the children in this region go to school hungry. In this highly impoverished community, many of the families live in one room shacks with a dirt floor and a tarp roof. The children cannot simply make a bowl of cereal for breakfast as they don't have a refrigerator to store milk. Cooking over open flames is not quick or simple and therefore just doesn't happen. Through the Breakfast Program, for only 63 cents a meal, 100-150 children are fed a warm and nutritious meal each morning before school. As a result, students are more focused and performing better in school. thereby equipping them to be the change within their own community.Update: our team with the help of Mariners Church, purchased a Taxi business that is currently providing all the funding for the Rojo Gomez Breakfast Program! It has been so successful that we are in the process of purchasing another Taxi to support a Breakfast Program in El Nino.
