Susan Sawatzky, B. Ed, CRSP, Cert PH&S Advisor, Director of In-Scope Solutions, is an independent consultant specializing in Health and Safety, Fatigue Risk Management and Psychological Health and Safety. Susan speaks internationally on the topics of fatigue management and stress in the workplace. She consults with industry clients across the Canada and the US, including her most notable recent speaking engagement for NASA safety professionals at the Johnson Space Center. Susan is an instructor with the University of Alberta, the University of New Brunswick and the University of Calgary; instructing Fatigue Management, Psychological Health and Safety, Business and Leadership and Safety Management Systems in their various OHS Programs. She specializes in presentations and highly engaging workshops to train workers and supervisors about the risks of fatigue in the workplace. Her workshops provide useful background information and practical strategies that can be used to reduce the risk of fatigue in high risk work environments. Susan also provides workshops and training in Stress Management, Bullying and Harassment, Psychological Health and Safety and more. Susan is also an engaging and sought after conference speaker and presenter. She has presented both keynote and concurrent sessions for audiences large and small, and is consistently one of the top rated presenters at conferences she attends.Recent experiences include drafting proposed OHS Fatigue Legislation for Alberta and providing subject matter expertise for the Fatigue Management Best Practices publication for the Industrial Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH) Association. She was involved in creating fatigue policy and guidelines for the Canadian oil and gas industry as the previous manager of the safety association's fatigue portfolio. Susan is also a certified Psychological Health and Safety Advisor.

Worked for a key Safety Association for the Canadian Oil and Gas Industry.Colaborated with various industry stakeholders to advance initiatives within their Fatigue Portfolio. Worked with the Steering Committee on Fatigue, hosting the Industry Input Workshop on Fatigue, and coordinating that industry feedback to create a Guiding Principles Agreement designed to provide a foundation for the 6 trade associations to develop fatigue best practices. Project Manager for the pump jack guideline development project. Work included on-site safety assessments focused on a formal hazard assessment and analysis of industry safety practices for work conducted on and around pump jacks. Site visits to 16 worksites across three provinces were conducted with 6 prime contractors and 9 service provider companies. Results will be used to create a guideline document for the industry.Writing and successfully receiving multiple grants, as well as managing various grant based projects. Communication and liaison with various stakeholders to negotiate corporately requested grant amendments and to communicate project success.

I had a very unique opportunity at Argyll, allowing me to work with all four campuses, Calgary, Edmonton, Lethbridge and Medicine Hat, to influence over 1500 learners. One of the main focuses of my leadership position as Curriculum Coordinator was to create experiential, hands-on programs for students in both science and math. My main focus was environmental education.My goal was to bring the students in for a day to whatever location (forest, zoo, river, mountain, etc) best suited the topic being studied. We would spend the day focused on hands-on experiential activities designed to create real life understandings of the curricular outcomes. From there, I created comprehensive take-home curriculum based activities to allow students to complete the remaining unit objectives. My programs were wildly successful and the students took almost as much enjoyment from thier learning as I did.
