I am a retired Middle School Science Teacher. I was a National Board Certified Teacher in Early Adolescent Science focused on instruction of students aged 11-14. My certificate expires in 2026. In 2012 I was selected as a participant in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Teacher at Sea program. This opportunity allowed me to cruise from the Florida Keys to the Dry Tortugas observing NOAA scientists at work as they conducted population studies of mutton snapper fish and ongoing ocean floor mapping.Since 2019, I have been active with the WREA and was elected President in 2020. I enjoy creating social events for our members who are retired educators. This helps us all stay active and contributing to our community. Many of our members mentor early educators who are student teaching. Our organization funds a scholarship just for beginning teachers. We also advocate for public schools, their students, and the folks who work in them by informing policy makers in the Nevada Legislature. In September 2020 I was invited to join the Board of Directors of Truckee Meadows Tomorrow and happily joined this non-profit. I was elected Secretary in December 2020 and continue my active participation in helping "measure what matters most about quality of life indicators" in Washoe County. I also enjoy reading, gardening, making clay pots and learning Italian.
