I founded Amity Publishing, LLC to publish a series of leveled readers with a patented design that helps students develop reading comprehension and executive function skills. These leveled readers are called Treasure Hunt Books because students "go on treasure hunts"--complete with solving a series of clues and finding "locations/clue answers." As of October 2023, there are 12 Treasure Hunt Books in the series and a guide for educators and parents.

Invented and developed a series of leveled Treasure Hunt Books (a patented invention) and companion electronic learning activities that included Orton-Gillingham-based phonics skill development and vocabulary development.

Managed the development of digital ELA curriculum content for grades 6–8, consisting of detailed daily lessons for students and instructional guides for teachers that have produced improved testing outcomes in reading and writing.• Built and managed teams of curriculum writers, reviewers, digital producers and editors which, at the organization’s peak, consisted of 33 employees under 5 supervisors.• Designed and trained the team to use a development process that consistently produced content on schedule, thereby enabling meaningful testing of a series of digital platforms. • Designed a training program for teachers hired as curriculum writers that resulted in a faster transition from teaching to writing curriculum for digital delivery.

Managed a team of writers, reviewers, editors and graphic designers to develop a set of lesson-by-lesson teacher guides and student workbooks for grades 3-8 that produced strong writing skills.• Designed and managed a new curriculum development process, from outlining to printing, that proved to be more efficient and to produce curriculum that resulted in better outcomes in classrooms.• Created templates and guidelines for curriculum developers and periodically updated those guidelines in response to feedback from teachers, administrators and trainers• Hired and mentored writers and editors• Brought graphic design in-house and thereby reduced cost without sacrificing quality

When I joined Lexia, there were four full-time employees and minimal revenues; when I left, we had roughly 40 full-time employees, a network of independent resellers, and annual revenue of roughly 10 million. My role during those years evolved as follows:OPERATIONS MANAGER Responsible for office management, purchasing, order processing, shipping, tech writing and publishing. Responsible for some of the reseller sales support, development of marketing collateral and direct family-customer sales. Gradually hired, trained and managed personnel to keep Lexia running smoothly as the company grew five fold. DIRECTOR, PUBLISHING & OPERATIONSHired and trained all personnel in Publishing and Operations, and kept Lexia running smoothly at low cost as the company doubled in size. • Sole responsibility for updating, editing and publishing an acquired special ed curriculum including the development of additional materials• Designed and wrote a profitable direct-mail marketing campaign for SPED materials• Managed the addition of on-screen Help to Lexia software• Led a highly successful CRM (SalesLogix) implementation, including customization and employee trainingVICE PRESIDENT, PUBLISHING & OPERATIONS Responsible for the development, marketing and delivery of all paper-based products, and for all office and fulfillment operations.• Managed development of an elementary reading curriculum integrated with Lexia software; developed marketing collateral for the curriculum, and introduced the product to Lexia’s resellers• Managed the development of all software User’s Guides and on-screen Help• Invented a new form of children’s book that was later patented• Managed Operations including purchasing, warehousing, order fulfillment, shipping, data entry, and CRM development, including a major upgrade and customizations• Wrote a successful offering memorandum to sell Lexia’s Special Ed curriculum

Designed, marketed and presented eating-disorder prevention programs for colleges and universities throughout the U.S. Also served as keynote speaker at many eating-disorder and other conferences. Designed and implemented direct-mail marketing campaigns that were so successful that cold-calling and outside sales support were unnecessary.

Founded and ran a profitable one-book publishing house. Responsible for: writing, production, order fulfillment, publicity, marketing, sales and accounting. Booked and appeared in dozens of TV and radio interviews, nationwide. Sold over 10,000 copies of MAKING PEACE WITH FOOD before selling to Harper & Row (now Harper Collins).
