It's a comfortable community space to sew with vintage sewing machines, vintage patterns, vintage sewing books, huge cutting table, free fabric and notions and lots of companionship.Home-sewing is currently a $5 billion industry in America. I'm enjoying being a part of it. I especially enjoy teaching a new generation about traditional and couture sewing techniques, as there are few of us who know these skills who are still around.Every stitch we sew ourselves removes pressure from the global sweat-shop labor force, from the monopoly of oil-based ocean-freighter distribution channels, and from cheap synthetic fabrics forced into production as a way to dispose of petroleum waste products. Every stitch we sew with cotton, silk, wool, linen, hemp, and ramie increases the income of family farms and small textile mills all over the globe. It reduces the amount of global carbon emissions and pollution. It enables citizens of other countries to produce goods and services using local resources instead of participating in modern day mercantilism where resources are shipped in, below subsistence wages are paid, finished products are shipped out, leaving the local economy and culture buried under widespread poverty and local graft and corruption, where garments are made by child labor, indentured servants, and bonded slaves.Join the Stitch Revolution.
