A social worker with 30+ years of experience, Susan Lamm believes second marriages can do more than just survive or improve, they can flourish. While running a child-centered practice for a decade, Susan witnessed the tragic effects of the breakdown of families in the Jewish community. She became passionate about helping parents and children who suffered through the pain of divorce or the death of a spouse/parent. The transition to the specialty of supporting second marriages and stepfamilies was apparent and urgently needed. Susan’s goal is to rebuild vibrant marriages and form healthy, integrated families. Understanding that each family’s dynamics are unique and complex, she draws on her wealth of knowledge and experience to help remarried couples and their children identify core issues, navigate difficult challenges, work through a healing process, build trust and establish effective communication. In the year 2000, Susan collaborated to develop a psychoeducation program for stepparents at Counterforce, a Brooklyn based Jewish social service agency. Today, she runs a successful private practice for individuals, remarried couples and stepfamilies with offices in Brooklyn and the Five Towns. Susan also offers interactive community workshops as well as mentorship training programs, empowering second marriages and blended families. Drawing on her expertise in parenting, she co-directs a parenting and family therapy program as well as supervises school social workers and family therapists at Counterforce. Recognized for her expertise in the sensitive area of remarriage and integrating families, Susan has been asked to present for such organizations as Nefesh and Sister to Sister. Clients appreciate Susan’s compassionate, goal-oriented approach to therapy.
