I taught second grade resource classes in multi-sensory reading, writing, and math while the teacher was on maternity leave. When she returned, I went into the general education classes to support the students with IEPs in those classes. I supported students in 2nd, 5th, and 6th grade math, 6th and 7th grade ELA, 7th and 8th grade social studies, and 7th.

Self-contained classroom of kindergarten through second grade with "severe and profound" students. Many had Autism, Moderate Cognitive Disability or Developmental Delay. Some wore diapers and most were non-verbal. We focused on developing routines, social and emotional skills, developing independence, communication, pre-reading, math, science and social.
Taught a first/second grade, self-contained special education class, at a Title I neighborhood school in suburban Chicago with predominantly Hispanic students with a variety of disabilities. In my second year, I was assigned to co-teach a 4th grade class to support the students with IEPs.
The school was an alternative high school for students who have dropped out, been kicked out or pushed out of their previous high school, and wanted to earn the remaining credits needed to graduate. The population was youth between 17 and 21 who came from very poor, crime-ridden areas on the south and west side of Chicago. I wrote about 40 IEPs a year.
