2013 - 2019Ongoing engagement with the Sinclair Board regarding strategy & risk management. Created an operational risk management strategy at board level and directed implementation across the refining organization.Guided the CEO and senior executive team in managing a safety crisis and leading a safety, reliability and cultural change program across the downstream organization. Delivered $26 million in cost savings in 9 months from work management improvements, process changes and system optimization. Transformed challenging external regulatory relationships by fostering open dialogue, cooperation and respect. Established visibility of refining HSE performance from the CEO/Board level to the front line. Delivered a 50% improvement in process safety and environmental compliance performance and a 90% reduction in overdue inspections in less than two years. Applied insight, experience and leadership to deliver operational and cultural change while reducing process safety incidents, enhancing company reputation and reducing incident costs of up to $30 million/incident.Hired industry-leading talent and significantly improved capability in key process safety roles; quadrupled internal staff holding professional inspection & engineering certifications in a two-year period.

2009 - 2013 ➢ Chicago & London: VP HSSE Global Downstream. Following the Gulf of Mexico incident, cre-ated and led the global downstream HSE organization. Drove significant process safety and operational risk improvements including a formal post-incident learning program. ➢ Chicago: Refining Global Environmental Manager. Led continuous improvement programs and reduced US refinery environmental emission events by 50%, resulting in cost savings and im-proved compliance performance.2003 - 2009 ➢ Los Angeles: Carson Refinery HSE Manager. Successfully transformed and implemented process safety work control systems resulting in an 80% reduction in safety incidents. Led the site leadership team in understanding and implementing the culture and process safety findings from the BP TX City incident.➢ Los Angeles: Carson Refinery Environmental Manager. Improved environmental compliance performance by 90% and transformed the relationship and reputation with the local air quality regulators. ➢ London: Chief of Staff to BP Group Vice President (GVP) HSE. Key member in creating the group strategy for HSE & climate. Developed and prepared briefings regarding ESG for the CEO, Group Chief Executives and the Safety Ethics & Environment Assurance Board Committee. 1991 - 2003 ➢ Anchorage: Senior Remediation Manager. Renegotiated and managed North Slope environ-mental clean-up commitments with the State of Alaska.➢ Salt Lake City: Refinery Remediation Manager. Negotiated risk based environmental clean-up agreements with the US EPA at various US refineries.➢ Atlanta: Environmental Manager. Led environmental remediation programs in over 20 US States.
