Susan R. Wilcox, M.D., FACEP, FCCM, FAAEM, attended medical school at Washington University School of Medicine and trained in Emergency Medicine in the Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency, graduating in 2008. After residency, she completed an Anesthesia Critical Care fellowship at MGH. Staying on as faculty at MGH in 2009, she divided her time between the Emergency Department and Surgical Intensive Care Units, and she attended in the multidisciplinary Intensive Care Unit at North Shore Hospital. She also represented MGH as an Associate Medical Director at Boston MedFlight from 2009 to 2015. She moved to the Medical University of South Carolina in 2015, where she attended primarily in the Medical ICU, as well as the Emergency Department, while serving as the medical director for the inpatient code team and the ground critical care transport service. In July 2017, she rejoined the faculty of MGH as the inaugural Chief of the Division of Critical Care in the Department of Emergency Medicine. In addition to attending in the Emergency Department and the Heart Center ICU, in November 2018, she was appointed as the Associate Chief Medical Officer of Boston MedFlight. She was named the Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs in the Dept. of Emergency Medicine at MGH in April, 2021. She was an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Harvard Medical School. In Sept 2022, she moved to Lahey Hospital and was appointed the Medical Director of the 5c Medical ICU. Her academic work focuses on improving the care of the critically ill patient in transport and in the ED as well as medical education at the intersection of emergency medicine and critical care.
