Public Media Center is a nonprofit, public interest communications agency. Developed and implemented communications and branding strategies for clients working on a wide variety of environmental and social issues; prepared media materials, developed effective media messages, trained and coached clients on media relations, and pitched stories to media; conducted media skills training workshops; wrote and managed production of collateral and promotional material, including brochures, briefing kits, banners, posters, t-shirts, etc.; wrote advertisements and strategized ad placement and role of ads in campaigns. Advised clients on fundraising and wrote successful grant proposals.

For this national, nonprofit environmental labeling and education organization, responsible for all media relations, and for program to educate public on how to live more environmentally responsible lives, drafted green living columns for Parade magazine. Developed strategy to build public awareness of the Green Seal: produced public service announcements, wrote and placed articles, and produced educational brochures.

Served as corporate conscience for major apparel company, advised on how to operate in more environmentally responsible manner. Initiated and coordinated ecological audit of all aspects of company; developed and administered program to encourage volunteer activities and giving by employees; advised on corporate giving.

Responsible for all contact with print media from the international headquarters during the critical final months leading up to major international event. Assisted with organization of and responsible for all media advance work for Jesse Jackson’s Environmental Justice Tour.

PUBLIC RELATIONS: Gained media attention, both in Alaska and nationally, on variety of public lands issues; wrote numerous guest editorials and letters to the editor; published article and column in Wilderness magazine; did biweekly commentary for Alaska Public Radio Network; was guest on radio and television talk shows nationwide.Played major role, particularly with media, in campaign to prevent oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Encouraged writers and reporters to visit Refuge, provided information and logistical support for visits by television networks and numerous publications. Led trips to Refuge for opinion leaders and writers from Sports Illustrated, Time, The New York Times, People, Condé Nast Traveler, Boston Globe, and National Geographic, among others. Assisted in production of radio stories, video, books and television documentaries on Refuge.POLITICAL: Lobbied U.S. Congress, Alaska State Legislature and administrative agencies; organized grassroots; conducted media and advocacy training workshops for activists. FUNDRAISING: Assisted in foundation, high donor, and direct mail fundraising efforts.
