About Susan Becklund

I had several jobs before starting the Port of Tacoma 29 years ago, but the Port has definitely been the major part of my career. It has offered me many areas of experience and opportunities. I was working at the Port when we didn't even count the containers yet, and now as the 7th largest container port in North America, we are glad we are diverse, and can take care of non-containerized cargo. The Port has benefited by my analytical skills in logistics and pricing, and my marketing and sales skills. I also have managed a team for 16 years.Specialties: Marketing and sales, customer relations, pricing and rate negotiation, creating procedures and agreements, overcoming obstacles.

I have been in transportation and logistics, managing, marketing, and pricing at the Port of Tacoma for many years. I took 3 years of Transportation Law classes when rail and trucking were deregulated. I have been responsible for the Port Tariff and have represented the Port in associations where Ports have the ability to discuss their operations, regulations, and rates for 27 years. I have been fortunate to be in marketing and develop relationships with our customers to be part of a team that takes care of them in Tacoma. I also have been active in the Propeller Club, and am a Past-Presdient. We have a scholarship program that has changed lives for high school seniors in Pierce County.
