From one of Fairfax's most successful section editors to Public Relations Manager of one of the world's most respected brands, Susan Bredow has achieved a unique career balance between journalism and public relations. During 12 years at Fairfax, she was responsible for the commercial development and maintenance of special features across the group's newspapers before being appointed first editor of the Sydney Morning Herald’s DriveLife weekly lifestyle motoring section. At Singapore Airlines, Susan was responsible for the management across Australia and NZ of the airline's media, stakeholder, government and industry relationships as well as managing sponsorships and internal communications. She was responsible for crisis communications and the airline's spokesperson during the 2010 Icelandic volcano ash cloud which grounded all aircraft in Europe.She has also worked as a journalist at The Australian newspaper, in public affairs at Esso Australia and during the early 1990s ran her own PR consultancy managing communications for a number of clients including GIO Australia, Caltex, Goodman Fielder, and KONE Elevators.Other strengths include good media contacts, excellent organisational skills and the ability to make quick, sound decisions. When I moved from this role to Drive Life, the job had grown so large, three people were employed to replace me.
