Susan Chalmers-Gauvin is a results-driven leader with over 20 years of management experience. Ms. Chalmers-Gauvin is the Co-Founder and driving force behind the international company, Atlantic Ballet Theatre of Canada. She has brought the Company from a start-up enterprise to an international success story with tours through-out Europe, United States and Canada. Ms. Chalmers-Gauvin has a demonstrated ability to develop a vision, inspire a broad base of support from community, private and public sector, achieve consensus and deliver results. Ms. Chalmers-Gauvin was was a recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal in 2021, inducted in to the Order of New Brunswick in 2017. She is a recipient of Top 50 CEO's in Atlantic Canada Award (2015 and 2023),In 2013 she received Canada’s TOP 100 Award- Canada's Most Powerful Women, by the Women’s Executive Network (WXN). She received an Honourary Doctorate from the University of New Brunswick (2012) and the YWCA Women of Distinction Award (2009).Ms. Chalmers-Gauvin actively pursues innovative partnerships which include collaborations with the education and social sectors. She spear headed the development of CELEBRATE COURAGE an award winning, national, cross sectorial program that uses ballet-art as a vehicle for dialogue and action on the issue of violence against woman and girls. She is a frequent guest speaker on the topics of performing arts management, the importance of Canadian arts and culture to our regional, municipal and national economies; and the key role the arts play in enriching the quality of life in our communities.Susan Chalmers-Gauvin has over 8 years of experience providing strategic counsel and program development expertise to First Nations communities and NGO's in her previous role as President of Stellar Consulting, She has also held leadership positions within the health care sector.

    Ms. Chalmers-Gauvin co-founded Atlantic Ballet Atlantique Canada with Artistic Director Igor Dobrovolskiy in 2001, with a vision to establish an internationally ranked professional ballet company of high artistic standard that would serve and represent the Atlantic region across Canada and around the world. She was Chair of the Board of Directors from 2001 to 2006. In 2006 she assumed the position of CEO. A key goal within this mandate was to contribute to the cultural and social quality of life of Atlantic Canada and beyond through artistic, educational and community outreach programs. The CEO is a leadership position providing inspiration and vision to ensure the long-term growth and sustainability of Atlantic Ballet Theatre of Canada. Responsible for overseeing all operational aspects of the company including: annual and long range planning; financial management, fund development; marketing, public relations human resources and government and community relations.

    Provided strategic counsel in the areas of: organizational development, management, program planning and evaluation to First Nations and NGO’s through-out Atlantic Canada. Selected Results: • Worked directly with First Nations communities to implement the federal transfer process of health services to the community level including: the establishment of health care centres; guidelines for the development of community health programs; staffing and human resource management systems; evaluation measures and benchmarks and corresponding community-based training.• Developed and implemented a quantitative and qualitative participatory evaluation system to assess the effectiveness of Family Resource Centres through-out Atlantic Canada which included an organizational development training component. Worked effectively with these centres over a number of years to ensure sufficient tracking and monitoring systems were implemented to achieve successful results and continuation of funding.• Member of the Design and Planning Team for an Atlantic Canada wide evaluation of the Community Action Program for Children (CAPC). The evaluation model for this project was considered highly innovative. The Team developed a collaborative qualitative approach which was implemented with the participation and cooperation of over 40 CAPC sites through-out the Atlantic region.

    Responsible for overseeing the province-wide management and delivery of all services and programs of the Home Care Division of the Canadian Red Cross, New Brunswick Division, including a $12million budget, thirteen offices and close to 900 employees.Selected Results:• Successfully implemented a major restructuring of the Home Care Division in order to streamline operations and programming to address significant industry changes related to the privatization of the home care industry and an increasing competitive market.• Re-branded the Home Care services to re-position the organization within the industry.• Instrumental in reducing program costs and improving the organization’s competitive position by establishing a centralized call centre system — the first of its kind in North America within the home care sector.

    Responsible for working strategically with Program Directors in thirteen offices across the province in the areas of program planning and evaluation including: development of province wide program guidelines, criteria, policies and procedures; establishment of service standards and monitoring processes and; development and implementation of quality assurance and evaluation systems to ensure the consistent delivery of Red Cross home care programs.Selected Results:• Partnered with the Alzheimer’s Society of New Brunswick to develop and implement specialized training of 900 Home Care Workers across the Province in response to the changing demographic of Red Cross clients.• Worked effectively with Senior Management to develop a plan and process to restructure the home care services in preparation for significant industry changes associated with the privatization of the sector and implementation of the Government of New Brunswick’s –Long Term Care Strategy.
