About Susan Combs

Susan Combs is a successful, experienced executive at both the state and federal levels. She has 16 years of statewide leadership in Texas, providing strategic and innovative management, as well as nearly three years at the U.S. Department of the Interior in executive management. At Interior, she was the Assistant Secretary for Policy, Management, and Budget, which oversees budget, procurement, human resources, and wildfire coordination at the department, among other tasks. She is a powerful advocate for women across the nation. Most recently, she served as the Chair of the Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission which delivered a series of programs across the country to celebrate the 19th Amendment centennial. She also launched a woman’s empowerment website in 2015 and has long had an interest in promoting women to leadership roles and personal success. She has a wealth of experience in transforming federal and state agencies and producing efficient and transparent government. She also has decades of interest and advocacy for children, whether it be related to their health or education. For her work in helping combat childhood obesity, she was featured in the HBO multi-part series, The Weight of the Nation, as well as numerous newspapers and TV programs. Combs also talks on best practices and knows how to bring out peak performance in both business and government. Her articles have appeared in the Wall Street Journal, and Susan has been featured on Fox Business and Fox News.As a business owner, Combs has managed her cattle ranch for more than 40 years on land in the Big Bend area of Texas that has been in her family since 1882.

    Congress passed legislation to create the Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission (S.847) “to ensure a suitable observance of the centennial of the passage and ratification of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States providing for women’s suffrage.” The original bill, sponsored by Senator Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin, garnered bi-partisan support, with each female member of the U.S. Senate acting as a co-sponsor. The legislation details that the Commission will meet at least once every six months until it terminates on April 15, 2021. Congress appropriated $4 million for the Commission to perform its duties.
