I have enjoyed almost 25 years as a robotics and automation engineer. I love math and developing complex algorithms and never grow tired of writing programs that move robots. One of my favorite aspects of engineering is that the work is always changing. I am excited at the prospect of learning new programming languages and working with new hardware. Looking back over my career so far, I feel fortunate to have had the chance to work on so many fun projects with so many intelligent and talented people and look forward to all of the projects to come.Specialties: ¨Visual Basic .NET, C, Visual C++, Cognex OMI, V+, and Val3; Trained in C#.Windows, DOS, UNIX, multi-threaded, multiprocessor, and embedded systems.Serial, Ethernet, Windows Sockets, TCP/IP, Modbus, shared memory, and .NET Remoting communications.Staubli, Robotics Research, and custom-built robots.Kinematics, collision avoidance, and axis transformation.Integrated graphical user interfaces, hardware, sensors, lasers, vision, and control systems.

Senior Robotics EngineerFsi International Aug 1999 - Sep 2008Developed robot system for production semi-conductor tool.·Managed technical detail for Staubli robot project: proposing system architecture, choosing programming languages, assigning project tasks, and setting project priorities.·Designed robot software application encompassing requirements definition, interface to tool host development, and design documentation.·Utilized Visual Basic .NET and Val3 to develop robot code including a high-level program on a PC and a low-level program on the robot controller. Programmed robot motion routines, graphical user interface, configuration initialization functions, operator utilities, error handling, and communication to tool host, robot controller, gripper, and sensors.·Conducted testing for independent robot code and tool host-directed robot commands consisting of three phases: simulator, mocked-up hardware, and actual tool. Developed simulator of host software to enable preliminary testing before host software was complete. -
Automation Systems EngineerAdvanced Integration Technology Jul 1996 - Jul 1999¨Independently developed kinematic and collision avoidance algorithms to position mobile robot used for B2 Bomber inspection. Collaborated with Northrop Grumman in design, integration, and testing phases.¨Worked with Boeing team and external contractors to develop and install laser alignment systems used to manufacture 737 and 747 airplanes. Developed motion control algorithms, communications software, and graphical user interfaces.¨Created Visual C++ graphics simulators to enable quick debugging of field hardware including joysticks, laser targets, and proximity sensors.
