Street Law is a nonprofit organization that creates classroom and community programs to teach and promote fundamental and practical principles of law, democracy, and human rights worldwide. While at ACC, Susan partnered with Street Law to create the Corporate Legal Diversity Pipeline program, offering corporate counsel the opportunity to teach legal concepts to high school students in diverse public schools in their local communities: the goal is to encourage and empower more diverse students to consider law as their career. This program is now a model for other legal diversity pipeline projects, including Street Law's law firm project partnered with NALP.

ACC is the global bar association for in-house lawyers. As Senior VP and GC (and ACC's original "intrapreneur"), Susan enjoyed a variety of roles and responsibilities during her 22-year tenure: she published and edited the ACC Docket, grew the sophistication and reach of ACC's educational programming, developed ACC's website (acca.com and then acc.com) and its original content, supervised the growth of ACC's Committee structure, and created and developed ACC's Legal Resources libraries and functions. She also led the Association's advocacy efforts, becoming known as "the voice of the in-house bar." In this role, Susan defined and promoted the agenda of the corporate in-house bar as an advocate, commentator, speaker and media spokesperson. She guided ACC’s amicus program, and advanced in-house professional standards [including protecting the attorney-client privilege in the corporate context, promoting cross-jurisdictional licensing (MJP), creating meaningful legal regulatory policy, providing testimony before government and bar authorities, and more.]She was also responsible for several strategic initiatives: ACC’s Value Challenge (to reconnect costs and value in legal services), the association's CLO and law department operations service segments, and ACC’s pro bono and diversity initiatives for corporate law departments (partnering with the Pro Bono Institute on CorporateProBono and with Street Law, Inc. on the ACC/Street Law Corporate Legal Diversity Pipeline program).

Equal Justice Works (EJW, formerly NAPIL) is a charitable organization that supports the development, funding and placement of lawyers whose passion is to devote their talents and careers to public interest legal work: EJW tapped Susan's leadership and network to include more corporate in-house lawyers in the organization's work and long-term success strategies, and allowed her the rare privilege of helping mobilize the next generation of lawyers committed to public interest work in pursuit of equal justice.

As one of MCCA's founding board members, Susan helped the initial leadership create a vibrant organization devoted to diversity, inclusion, and enriching our profession by empowering the careers of every lawyer with a valuable contribution to make.
