Susan is a successful information technology leader with more than 30 years’ experience in a broad range of roles. She is currently the Chief Deputy State CIO/Chief Services Officer for North Carolina Department of Information Technology overseeing Service Delivery which supports state agencies, local governments and educational institutions. She was recently a Consultant with the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost after 4 years as the Associate Vice Chancellor and Deputy CIO for Information Technology Services (ITS) at UNC-Chapel Hill.As Consultant, Susan has been instrumental to several pan-campus initiatives including the start of the successful Operational Excellence program and Data Science @ Carolina initiative which will include a new school of data science for UNC-Chapel Hill. Other efforts have included the award of the online program management contract, Data Analytics proposal and the implementation transition for Carolina Next, UNC’s new strategic plan. In her former role as Deputy CIO, Susan was responsible for governance, policy, vendor management, digital communications services, IT security, institutional privacy and management of the Office of the CIO. Susan is committed to giving back to her community. She is a current member and former chair of the board of Triangle Technology Executive Council (TTEC) and a founding board member for Students to Scholars, a local organization providing select Durham and Orange County students the opportunity to benefit from the rigorous academic environment of top independent secondary schools. Loving the technology revolution, Susan has prided herself on her hands-on approach in management and technology. Susan was named in, “The Top 100 Most Social CIOs on Twitter” in Huffington Post from 2013 to 2016 and in 2012, Susan was the recipient of the Triangle Business Journal’s CIO of the Year award. Susan earned a BS in Computer Science from UNC-Chapel Hill and a MS in Computer Science from the University of Colorado.
