About Susan L. Farrell

Empowerment is external. Self-empowerment is internal. Empowerment is when someone gives us permission, power, or authority to do something. Self-empowerment is when we give ourselves permission, power, or authority to do something and then take the responsibility to do it.I use my love of learning to inspire women to learn about themselves. I urge them to empower themselves to achieve the lives they desire. I draw upon my experiences as a leader, manager, consultant, coach, trainer, teacher, and business owner to provide ideas to encourage women to think about what they do, why they do it, and do they want to change. My first career was with a national health care company. I quickly moved from the facility to corporate level. As owner of SLF Consulting & Training, LLC, I assisted clients with the challenges of combining customer satisfaction, cost control, and regulatory compliance. My business acumen made me a sought-after speaker which led to a successful speaking career. This, in turn, led to my current writing career on self-empowerment for women.I have had various positions that included teaching and training my employees, co-workers, associates, and customers. I have taught as an adjunct instructor at business colleges.I am the author of four books on self-empowerment for women. "Don’t Act Like Prey!" discusses respectful assertiveness as an option to passive or aggressive behavior. "52 Weeks of Wisdom," Volumes 1 and 2, are designed to provide ideas to encourage women to think about what they do, why they do it, and do they want to change. "3 Good Choices: Change It, Accept It, or Leave It" discusses how to make positive choices in all aspects of life.

If you’re like many women, from birth you were taught to be passive. While the boys were being rowdy, we were taught to be quiet. While men could argue, we were told to avoid conflict. Be nice. Speak softly. Don’t make a fuss. Now we’re adults, and we’ve discovered that passivity allows people to take advantage of us in both our personal and professional relationships. In response, some women adopt an aggressive stance. Unfortunately, that doesn’t usually work either. If docility encourages disrespect and aggression makes us disrespectful, what choice is there? In "Don’t Act Like Prey!," author and women’s self-empowerment consultant Susan L. Farrell offers a third option: respectful assertiveness.Drawing on the natural world and her personal life for examples, Farrell reveals how assertiveness strikes a balance between the passivity that characterizes prey and the aggression that is the mark of a predator. It is in this balance we find a way to stand up for ourselves without harming others or damaging relationships. Written in clear, straightforward language, "Don’t Act Like Prey!" includes exercises to foster your growing sense of assertiveness. It’s time to abandon passivity without embracing aggression. It’s time for the empowerment that comes with assertiveness.Books are available as paperbacks from Amazon and Barnes & Noble and as eBooks from Kindle, Nook, and Smashwords. For additional information and for links to order books and eBooks, go to www.SusanLFarrell.com.

SLF Consulting & Training is my original business, and continues to be my umbrella company with Susan L. Farrell, MBA and SLF Publishing operating under it.I started SLF Consulting & Training as a health care food service management consulting company. I assisted clients in improving cost control, customer satisfaction, and regulatory compliance. In addition to consulting (including food safety audits for restaurants as well as heath care), I did training and speaking. Gradually the speaking component became larger than the consulting piece. During this time I also taught as an adjunct instructor at business colleges.Throughout this, I was informally assisting clients grow and develop professionally, and sometimes personally as well.In 2003 I started conducting ServSafe food safety workshops for the Wisconsin Restaurant Association. I still do it, primarily because I enjoy it so much. Food safety is extremely important to all our health, and because of what I do, our food is that much safer.
