I have been attracted to growing entrepreneurial organizations, to increase their impact and effectiveness, throughout my career. While my titles are often Chief Financial Officer, I work across functions to improve strategy, organization structure and operations. As expected, I have strong financial and analytical skills. Yet, I am often told I am not a “typical CFO” due to my strategic approach and that the range of responsibilities I oversee are associated with COO roles.Several years ago, I chose to redirect my business skills to the nonprofit world, targeting organizations that had missions aligned with my personal values. I became CFO of the YWCA Metropolitan Chicago in 2012.As CPO at Blessings in a Backpack, I drive organizational change around scalability and sustainability to feed more hungry children on the weekends. There are 13 million food insecure children in the United States. While these children may benefit from breakfasts and lunches at their school during the week, there is no national funding for weekend nutrition. Who will feed the kids this weekend? Blessings will as the only national nonprofit solely dedicated to closing the 65-hour weekend nutrition gap for children.When I’m not working too much, I enjoy time with my family, travel (especially if scuba-diving is involved), and physical challenge. I climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro in 2014 with two of my kids. I recently completed half marathons on three consecutive days in our national parks. I’ve completed over 25 triathlons and coached women, mostly first-timers, to participate in triathlons.
