With statistics like these, never before has there been a greater need for novel approaches to metabolic disease.My PhD examined the impacts of low-calorie sweeteners on biological systems and used molecular pharmacology to propose novel drug targets in the fight against obesity and diabetes.My talent for writing engaging and informative science is illustrated by my five conference presentations, resulting in 2nd place poster prize at the 2017 International Nanomedicine Conference.My creativity and flair for oral communication is exemplified by my win at the UNSW Three Minute Thesis competition in 2015, resulting in participation in the Trans-Tasman competition and more than 22 000 views of the online youtube video, which you can watch below:

As a pharmacology teacher, I taught and mentored students in undergraduate pharmacology classes, including honours and project research. As a production engineer, I contributed to daily operations and managed projects that provide us with the clean, safe drinking water and efficient sewage disposal that we rely upon each and every day.My talent and passion for writing is highlighted by my three conference papers, resulting in 1st prize for best engineering paper at the 2010 Inaugural National Operations Conference and a publication in the journal, Water.My skills in project management and conflict resolution were brought to the fore during a sitewide plant upgrade project, where I collaborated across five shift-teams and multiple clients and contractors, to generate a 15% increase in site biogas production and an improved ability to meet and exceed environmental and regulatory standards.My efficient and effective time and resource management is exemplified by managing multiple asset construction and renewal projects to a limited budget, enabling improved onsite manual handling practices and a better capability to meet and exceed regulatory and safety requirements.

The development of nanoparticle technology has lead to inventions such as scratch-proof glasses, transparent sunscreen and self-cleaning windows. My work as an undergraduate researcher contributed to the development of nanoparticles for use in novel, nanoparticle-based solar cells.I demonstrated my problem-solving and critical thinking skills through optimising chemical synthesis procedures, leading to improved homogeneity of nanoparticle products.
