The Leadership for Social Good Study Abroad Program in Central and Eastern Europe offers interested students the opportunity to gain insight into global civil society, learn about the challenges of creating and leading effective and sustainable social enterprises, and make a positive impact by working closely with a non-profit organization in Budapest, Hungary.

Invest for Better Circles are small, peer-led groups who join together to learn, share personal experiences, and support each other in becoming confident and values-aligned investors.

Segal Family Foundation is a social impact funder and advisor with more than 350 grantee partners in East and Southern Africa. I led a team of four in engaging peers in the funding community in the U.S. and globally to champion African visionaries. This included the African Visionary Fellowship and Segal's signature events (Annual General Meeting, Donor Salon, UNGA). Beyond bolstering internal systems to make better-curated doer-donor connections, my innovations included the Equitable Giving Toolkit, Visionary Voices speakers bureau, a Luminary Circle mentoring program, and a partner-facing funder directory with information on geographical and sector interests of more than 900 funding organizations. My team led the way in leveraging more than 100 million USD from other funders towards social impact organizations working in Africa (most of them locally led).

To ensure Georgia Tech’s role and reputation as a global innovation - and innovation education - leader, a Social Innovation Ecosystem, should be a key component of campus-wide experiential learning and engaged research and of Georgia Tech’s Anchor Institution strategy overall. The goal of this project is to provide a roadmap for establishing this Social Innovation Ecosystem and advances the Institute’s Strategic Plan. The project will be guided globally by the UN SDGs and locally by a commitment to advancing a community-driven approach to social innovation, with a special focus on supporting social and environmental initiatives and ventures that are led by people of color, in low-income communities of color, especially in the westside communities surrounding Georgia Tech. I support Georgia Tech’s Serve-Learn-Sustain in exploring the landscape of social innovation at Georgia Tech within teaching, research, programs, centers and institutes, and in relation to community and corporate partners.

Students participating in the Sustainable Communities Internship program must participate in the SLS internship seminar that meets one evening each week for one hour. The seminar introduces students to theories of grassroots sustainability innovation, and provides students with an opportunity to reflect on their internship experiences. I supported the development of an engaging series of remote seminars.

The USAID Global Waters Communication and Knowledge Management Project II (CKM II) provides services that spotlight efforts of USAID’s Center for Water Security, Sanitation, and Hygiene and partners supporting the U.S. Government Global Water Strategy. Improve International strove to improve the work of the international development sector, with a focus on sustained water and sanitation services. We encouraged and facilitated accountability and learning from failure in part through independent post-implementation evaluation of water and sanitation projects.

The British-American Project was founded by Sir Charles Villiers, Lewis Van Dusen, and Isadore and Joan Scott in 1985 in order to make a distinctive contribution to transatlantic relations by bringing together young leaders in diverse fields to exchange ideas and develop lasting and constructive relationships. Since then it has grown into one of the most influential organisations on the international scene, enabling all those associated with it (some 1,000 members in total) to benefit from the friendship and experience of a unique group of leaders in business, government, the media, voluntary and non-profit organisations, medicine and the armed forces.

Grand Challenges provides students with an opportunity to develop problem solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills in order to find solutions to real-world problems. Beyond the exploration of a problem and the discovery of a solution, Grand Challenges funds student projects and allows them to put into practice what they learn in the classroom. The newly formed Advisory Board will help to guide students to deeper investigation and possible application of their proposed solutions.

WNSF's mission is to advance sustainability through the commitment, talent, and leadership of businesswomen.

The WASH Advocacy Initiative supported the U.S. WASH community in moving the U.S. Government and U.S. citizens into a global leadership position on water and sanitation on several fronts, including but not limited to level of foreign investment, general awareness of the global water crisis, sustainability of WASH aid and programming, prioritization of WASH within the U.S. Department of State, and integration of WASH in other global development activities. The 12-month effort bridged between the Water Advocates impact and WASH Advocates.

The Millennium Water Alliance (MWA) was formed in 2002 by a group of NGOs to improve collaboration among NGOs working in the WASH sector in the developing world. MWA was formed to support efforts to achieve the Millennium Development Goals by offering sustainable solutions through collective impact, shared knowledge, and innovative programming and is now using these principles to support achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. MWA seeks to advance high standards for program quality, transparency, and accountability, is a strong advocate for US leadership in effective foreign assistance, and is part of a global coalition to raise awareness of and commitment to water and sanitation. Current members include CARE, CRS, WaterAid, Water for People, and World Vision.

Water For People helps people in developing countries improve their quality of life by supporting the development of locally sustainable drinking water resources, sanitation facilities and health and hygiene education programs.Water For People understands we can maximize our effectiveness and impact through the power of partnerships – with the private sector, civil society, local governments, multilaterals and bilaterals, academic institutions and other NGOs. We currently have several such strong relationships, including the American Water Works Association, Water Environment Federation, UN Habitat, UNICEF, Global Water Challenge (GWC), Millennium Water Alliance (MWA) and the WASH Advocacy Initiative. I created this role in the organization to help optimize those current partnerships and develop new ones.

Empowering CARE's partners to promote and create sustainable solutions

Liaised between external relations and program divisions to help develop partnerships and collaborations and bring in additional resources for water resource management programs around the world

Susan Davis was the national Subject Matter Expert for Water at CARE USA, one of the world’s leading humanitarian organizations fighting global poverty. As the Subject Matter Expert on Water, she liaised between CARE’s Water Team and External Relations colleagues to develop relationships with corporations and foundations to bring in more resources for sustainable water programs, a focus area for CARE. She also cultivated major gifts for integrated solutions to poverty to support an overall goal of $4.5 million for the Southeast Region. She planned and implemented trips to CARE projects abroad for major donors and prospects. She visited CARE’s projects in Haiti, Kenya, Nicaragua and Vietnam.

WaterPartners International is now water.org. Susan wore several hats with this growing organization, including fundraising, communications, international programs, and senior management team. She diversified the organization's resource development program (it had been primarily grassroots): developed the major gifts program, coordinated and strengthened our national special events committees, wrote grant proposals, and participated in face to face asks with high net worth individuals.She helped with selecting high quality partner organizations in India, Bangladesh and the Philippines. She evaluated water projects in several countries using a rigorous rubric.

Managed EPA air pollution risk assessment projects worth $250,000, and supported proposals for technical environmental support to government agencies. She managed project staff of 3 to 5.

Hired as Associate Scientist in 1991, promoted to Scientist in 1992; promoted to Project Manager and Senior Scientist in 1994; promoted to Department Manager in 1996Susan moved rapidly up the management and technical ladders in this firm, with a focus on evaluating human health risks associated with contaminated groundwater, surface water, and soil at more than 100 hazardous waste sites around the United States. She managed staff of 15 in offices in four states with budget of over $500,000 and created and managed a national risk assessment team to help coordinate scarce resource allocation.
