I analyzed data from a cross-sectional study of the Cree First Nations communities of Eeyou Istchee (James Bay region, northern Quebec), with a focus on changing trends in exposure to methylmercury through dietary sources.

Through two summers at OMAFRA, I worked on a number of projects within the Agriculture Development Branch.Working on the Fire Blight Monitoring Program, I worked with a team of specialists and students to coordinate mapping and web posting of disease modelling results in tight timeframes three times per week.Additionally, I used Microsoft Excel and custom software packages to model the risk of fungal and bacterial plant diseases based on environmental conditions, assisted my supervisors with data management and compiled several literature reviews (e.g. on the effect of fungicides on pollinators, and the modelling of strawberry anthracnose disease).

Working for Alumni Affairs and Development, I communicated with University of Guelph alumni by phone to provide campus updates, maintain alumni relationships with the university, and solicit donations. I was a highly successful caller with top statistics for donations and excellent feedback from alumni.

Working with a University of Guelph professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, I explored the potential of the statistical classification algorithm Random Forest to find objects of interest in high-resolution panoramic images taken by biologists in the field. I reviewed scientific literature and used software including MATLAB, Python and R to extract relevant features from images and test classification schemes. The project resulted in a preliminary report to be used as the basis for future research.

Working in the Adamowicz lab, I used molecular methods to investigate the genetic and biogeographic relationships among North and South American Daphniidae species. I reviewed the literature and performed laboratory tasks including specimen imaging, DNA extraction, PCR and sequencing, and alignment of DNA sequences.
