About Susan Nelson

I am the associate director of advancement and director of alumni relations for School Year Abroad (SYA), serving over 9,000 alumni. Founded in 1964, SYA is the only high school study abroad program which allows students to live with a European family for an entire academic year while earning U.S. high school graduation credits and preparing for selective U.S. colleges and universities. Each year each one of our high school study abroad programs in France, Italy, and Spain enrolls approximately 65 students each to complete their sophomore, junior or senior year of high school. Students come from public and private high schools across the United States. Limited semester options and summer programs are available.I have been a volunteer with my local farmers market since 2010 and manage its social media and communications. I am also a vendor there and at other seasonal festivals with my younger daughter with handcrafted home and personal accessories.

    School Year Abroad (SYA) is a nonprofit organization focused on providing immersive study abroad programs. With nearly 8,500 alumni since 1964, SYA is a school fully accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). Founded upon a yearlong study abroad model, SYA operates four campuses in China, France, Italy and Spain, and has expanded to provide a wide array of programs designed to develop skills for an increasingly interdependent world. SYA's yearlong program remains the only secondary-level option allowing students to live with a host family for an entire academic year while earning U.S. graduation credits and preparing for admission to selective U.S. colleges and universities.

I took on the role of early website building and newsletter management. Appointed to the board in January 2013, I served through 2016. Often featured on New Hampshire's WMUR TV's (ABC affiliiate) Cook's Corner, showcasing many ways to use market fresh ingredients. I also hosted three farm-to-table dinners, partnering with local venues and our farms. In July 2023, in addition to being the weekly newseltter editor, I became the social media marketing manager. I'm also a vendor with my youngest daughter.
