As a disaster researcher, behavioral health clinician, and instructor, my passion lies in community resilience and preparedness. When people, organizations, and the community as a whole are better prepared, we are better able to respond and recover following an emergency. I am especially interested in the integration of psychology and behavioral health into disaster preparedness, response, and recovery. Mental health is an incredibly important part of personal wellness and happiness, yet it is often overlooked in our daily lives. During the stress leading up to, during, and following a disaster this is even more so the case. I believe that to successfully prepare for and recover from a traumatic event we need to strengthen all aspects of our community to increase its resilience.
