Project Host is a local Greenville organization working to alleviate hunger and provide job training through several programs that tackle different aspects of food insecurity. At Project Host, I collect and maintain organized records for the Cooking for Kids Child Nutrition Programs; I train participating site staff and conduct periodic site visits to support staff in successful program implementation; and I manage donor management software to increase donor retention and more efficiently communicate with donors.

The Food Trust is a nationally recognized nonprofit dedicated to ensuring that everyone has access to affordable, nutritious food and information to make healthy decisions. At The Food Trust, I collaborated with schools and community sites in the greater Philadelphia area to provide nutrition education programming and cooking classes to SNAP eligible residents from young children to senior citizens. I also identified opportunities within the community to improve health and wellness through changes in policies, systems and the environment.

The University of Maryland Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership works to create a new culture of philanthropy through developing more effective and innovative citizens and leaders committed to improving our world. At the center, I collaborate with professors to develop classroom materials and grade assignments for an undergraduate class on philanthropy. I also conduct outreach with local nonprofit organizations to facilitate the grant-making process for the class and to encourage collaboration will the Center.

Riverdale, Md

ECO City Farms is an educational, non-profit organization located in Prince George’s County, Maryland designed to serve as a prototype for sustainable local urban farming. During my time there, I collaborated with educators to support farm-based summer youth program, organized a bike ride and silent auction event to raise over $8,000 in funds for farm infrastructure and did community outreach with residents and school leaders to promote nutrition education programs.

CentroNía is a nationally recognized, multicultural learning community with a pioneering approach to bilingual education. Its charter school, DC Bilingual PCS, is a learning community that ensures high academic achievement for all students in both English and Spanish, develops leadership and values all cultures. As a first grade special education teacher, I designed and implemented interdisciplinary literacy and social studies curriculum for 43 first grade students, differentiated instruction to meet the unique needs of each student and built relationships with families by conducting home visits, organizing quarterly parent-teacher team meetings and holding individual conferences to discuss educational goals.

Baltimore, Md

John Ruhrah Elementary/Middle School is a Pre-K through 8th grade public school in Southeast Baltimore. As a general and special education teacher, I instructed a diverse group of elementary students in reading, writing, math, science and social studies and built relationships with families by communicating with parents and facilitating parent workshops to share strategies for reading with children at home. I raised over $3,000 through Donors Choose and Target grants to supplement classroom materials. Additional projects to improve the school community included organizing a student learning garden and after school garden club, coordinating the school's USDA funded Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Program and initiating a school recycling program led by middle school students.

Guatemala

The Central American Solar Energy Project is a foundation that promotes the construction and use of solar ovens in rural communities in Central America. The organization supports community projects in Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua to empower women, improve living standards and defend a threatened forest ecosystem. I spent time at the community projects in Honduras and Guatemala, collaborating with a web-designer to develop the content for the organization's website. I also led outreach efforts to nonprofit organizations and foundations in support of the organizations fundraising efforts.
