Susan Smith, SPHR earned a B.S. in Business Administration from Wayne State University with a major in Personnel and Industrial Relations. She began her career with operational and financial management positions at AT&T and at Citicorp’s Advance Mortgage Corporation. Her professional recruiting career started in 1984 when she joined a large national search firm. In 1992 she launched Smith Professional Search.Susan has been an active member of the Detroit SHRM since 1985 and served as President of the Association in 2003–4. She has been SPHR certified since 1998. Susan helped launch and continues to be active with Detroit SHRM’s Global HR Forum. Her involvement with The Michigan State Council of SHRM (MISHRM) included 3 Director Roles over 7 years of service. She was invited to join SHRM’s Staffing Management Special Expertise Panel for a three-year term. Her involvement on this 12-person Panel included a team project to predict and report HR trends, as well as providing subject matter expertise for pending and current legislation, and writing on various HR topics. In conjunction with this work she co-authored a White Paper on contingent staffing. Susan is currently a member of Association for Corporate Growth (ACG) and serves on the Detroit Chapter Program Committee and is serving as the Chair of the Chapter's Women's Forum.Being a strong supporter of Detroit and all things Michigan, Susan has been an active volunteer and has held board positions with many local community and business organizations including The Community House, Inforum, the Parade Company, and Detroit’s 101 Best & Brightest Company’s to Work For.
