During my PhD I worked on the development of Virus-like particle (VLP) based vaccine platforms. VLPs can be used as scaffolds to increase the immunoginicity of complex subunit antigens by displaying the recombinant protein in a dense, repetitive and unidirectional manner on the surface of the VLP. This gives the subunit antigens the appearance of “virus-like” features enabling activation of both the innate and adaptive immune response.
